William “Bill” Bard, 79, of New Haven, Indiana went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 19, 2023. He was born in Bluffton, Indiana on June 10, 1943 to Charles Bard and Pauline Coyle.
On August 3, 1968 he married the love of his life Gwendolyn “Gwen” Holcomb. This year they would have been married 55 years.
He retired from General Electric after 36 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War.
He served as head usher for New Haven UMC for many years. He enjoyed listening to short wave radio, especially the storm watchers. He loved helping veterans and volunteered for nine years with the Northeast Indiana Honor Flight. In 2013 he was a guardian for a WWII veteran to Washington DC.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen; daughters, Jill (Eric) Thomas and Kris (Doug) Gabbard; and grandchildren Zachary Thomas, Lauren Thomas, Jocelyn Gabbard, and Bryce William Gabbard.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Bard, and sisters, Opal Kreigh and Mary Byerly.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Taylor Chapel Ministries - 10145 Maysville Road, Fort Wayne, IN . Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army and the American Legion Post #47.
Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
