Vivian A. Minnich

June 29, 1931 — January 2, 2023

Vivian A. Minnich, 91, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Monday, January 2, 2023, at her daughter’s residence.

She was born on June 29, 1931, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Rheinhart Herber and late Claudine (Sorg) Herber.

Vivian was united in marriage to Maximillian J. Minnich on November 24, 1949 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2004.

Vivian received Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion, Confirmation and Holy Matrimony at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel; where she was on the Parish Council for two years.  She was a 1949 graduate of Central Catholic High School and following her graduation received training as a Certified Reflexologist.   She was also a member of the Concerned Women of America in addition to the Indiana Farmers Union.

All the while, cherishing the time she spent in her most important vocation, being a homemaker and raising her family. She touched the lives of so many people and helped those who were hurting. Vivian enjoyed music, gardening, working on the family farm and those late night softball games.

Vivian is survived by son, Gary (Jeanne) Minnich of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Stanley (Jayne) Minnich of Hoagland, Indiana; daughter, Deborah (Jerry) Sorg of Hoagland, Indiana; daughter, Linda (Tom) Schurr of Ossian, Indiana; daughter, Tami (Brandon) Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Ryan Minnich and Autumn (Derek) Schuch; Jake (Stacy) Minnich; Cliff (Amanda) Sorg, Ben (Kim) Sorg, Valerie (Tony) Turner, and Zachary (Amber) Sorg; Luke (Lacy) Hurt and David (Valerie) Hurt; Madilyn Scheumann, Grace Scheumann and Grant Scheumann; honorable grandchild, Ellie Beachy; 15 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; and two honorable great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua J. Minnich; two brothers, Kenneth Herber and Richard Herber; and sister, Betty Landin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel with Father William Kummer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hessen Cassel.

Friends and family will be received from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Monday.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, Vivian’s family would ask that preferred memorials be directed toward the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel Building Fund or Hoagland Fire Department & EMS.
