Virginia I. “Ginny” Hakes, 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday afternoon, May 27, 2024, at her residence.
Ginny was born on June 10, 1933 in Paulding County, Ohio to Roy E. and Susie J. (Perry) Taylor. She was united in marriage to Paul E. Hakes on February 21, 1963 in Decatur, Indiana and he preceded her in death on November 17, 1999.
She was a member of Decatur Church of God where she served as Children’s Director for 25 years.
Ginny was employed in Quality Control with Ellison Bakery, formerly Archway.
She was an avid listener of WBCL and loved Michigan football. She was very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Jennifer L. (Ron) Keller of Decatur, Indiana, Debra S. (Erik) Schnepp of Scotts, Michigan, and Peggy C. (Joe) Moore of Goshen, Indiana; son, David (Cindy) Hakes of New Haven, Indiana; brother, James L. (Sharon) Taylor of Decatur, Indiana; ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two grand dogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Kayden Miller; two brothers, Marvin A. and Roy Taylor; and three sisters, Ruby Hale, Sabina Gaskill, and Rheba L. Eichhorn.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Decatur Church of God with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Chuck Fenwick will officiate and burial will follow at Springhill (Backesto) Cemetery.
Family and friends will also be received from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur.
Memorials can be given in Ginny’s name to WBCL Radio or ACCF – Benjamin Allen Roehs Fund.
