Vera R. Merica , 101, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Adams Heritage in Monroeville, Indiana.
She was born on April 24, 1920, in Hoagland, Indiana to the late Charles Witte and the late Emelia (Springer) Witte.
On August 12, 1939, Vera married Glenn C. Merica in Fort Wayne, Indiana and he preceded her in death on September 20, 1991.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville where she was involved in the Von Bora Society. She also assisted the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school.
Vera was a 1938 graduate of Hoagland High School. She was a homemaker and very instrumental in assisting her husband, Glenn, in his real estate and auctioneering business for 43 years.
Vera enjoyed polka dancing and gardening. She also loved sports of many kinds including the Chicago Cubs and high schools for her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (Pat) Merica of Carmel, Indiana and Jay (Lois) Merica of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, Glenn Witte of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Kim Lawson, Matt Merica, David Merica, Darren Hartman, Laura Libbee, Jeff Hartman, Eric Hartman, Jason Merica, Amanda Wilson, and Justin Merica; 23 great-grandchildren, Mitch Merica, Megan Merica, Hannah Merica, Gabriel Hartman, Lindsey Hartman, Hilary Merica, Hannah Hartman, Peyton Merica, Fayeth Hartman, Evan Wilson, Derek Hartman, Hudson Merica, Reese Merica, Isaac Wilson, Shepard Merica, Kate Merica, Jackson Hartman, Cooper Merica, Eleanor Merica, Kendall Hartman, Amelia Merica, Allison Libbee, and Revere Merica; and three step great – grandchildren, Chris Lawson, Austyn Huffer, and Will Huffer.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Lloyd) Hartman; two brothers, Herb and Harold Witte; and two sisters, Arvada Waterson and Elda Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville with Rev. Dr. Kathleen Haller officiating. Burial will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
Preferred memorials can be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
