Thomas E. Buuck, 89, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.
He was born on April 14, 193,5 to the late Albert and Corena (Bultemeyer) Buuck, at home in Decatur, Indiana, and he lived there for his entire lifetime.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, being honorably discharged in 1962.
Tom was united in marriage to Marvene A. Krick on June 20, 1953, in Woodburn, Indiana.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim where he served on many of the boards at church.
Tom graduated from Monmouth High School class of 1953. He was employed at Indiana Air National Guard as an aircraft mechanic for the 122nd Tactical Fighter Wing, retiring after 23 years of service. It was during his time of service with the 122nd, that his unit was activated and deployed to Chamblay, France in 1961. He was a farmer, and co-owner of the Hoagland Engineering and Welding shop in Hoagland. After “retirement” he was employed by the Fort Wayne Airport Authority.
Tom had a fascination with airplanes! In addition to working on airplanes, he also enjoyed flying them. Flying helped foster a sense of adventure for Tom. This adventurous spirit transferred to sailing and traveling. Along with his wife Marvene, they would travel and sail on Lake Erie and Crooked Lake, and even sailed with Bob and Wilma Pilkington in the Bahamas and other locations in the Caribbean.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marvene A. Buuck of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Annette K. (Sam) Ruble of Decatur, Indiana; son, Randall T. Buuck of Angola, Indiana; grandson, Joseph B. (Becky) Ruble; granddaughter-in-law, Lori Ruble; five great-grandchildren, Jon, Isaac, Anna, Luke and Sam Ruble.
Tom was preceded in death by his son, Kent E. Buuck in 1976; two sisters, Patricia Buuck and Lois Everett; and grandson, Paul E. Ruble.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, with Pastor Matthew Ulmer officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim. Graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church – Friedheim Wyneken Endowment (checks payable to Zion – Friedheim) or Decatur Wrestling Club.
