Steven A. Gaskill, 71, of Woodburn, Indiana passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne due to pneumonia resulting from complications after battling lung cancer.
He was born on October 16, 1949, in Decatur, Indiana to the late George J. Gaskill and the late Gloria J. (Fuelling) Gaskill. Steve was united in marriage to Brenda Saylor on July 14, 1973. Together, they celebrated 47 years of marriage this past July.
Steve was a member of the United States Army. He was honorably discharged following his service during the Vietnam War in 1970. At the time of his discharge, he had attained the rank of Specialist E-4.
He held a membership in the American Legion Post #377 in Woodburn.
Steve was a custodian for several area schools including Bishop Dwenger High School and at Halls Restaurants in Ft. Wayne.
He was a fixture in Woodburn for riding his moped around town. In his spare time his hobbies included painting, artwork, and being outside.
Steve is survived by his wife, Brenda Gaskill of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Tammy (Dwayne) Castle of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Amy (Karl) Seibert of Wolcottville, Indiana; sister, Alice (Jack) Fultz of Fort Wayne, Indiana; brother, David (Rose) Gaskill of Hoagland, Indiana; brother, Tim (Cheryl) Gaskill of Monroeville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Ashley Castle, Lindsey Castle, Hannah Castle, Brayden Seibert, and Chelsea Seibert.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Pastor Ralph Klinker officiating. Burial will follow at Monroeville Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2021, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville and one hour prior to services on Friday also at the funeral home.
