Stephen R. “Skip” Howard, 76, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019 at his residence.
He was born on September 21, 1942 in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Earl J. Howard and the late Constance “Jean” (Macke) Howard. He was united in marriage to Barb Parker on October 13, 1962 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, and she survives. They were married 56 years before Skip’s passing.
Skip served on the Monroe township advisory board for 25 years, he was a Monroeville volunteer fireman for 30 years, a member of The Sons of Union Veterans for 30 years, Four Presidents Corners Historical Society, and volunteered for the Monroeville Community Park.
He was employed by International Harvester for 23 years, before retiring in 1982. After retirement he managed Mulberry Court Senior Apartments.
Skip was an avid reader, Civil war enthusiast, even authoring his own Civil War book. He loved traveling to Gettysburg’s with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Howard of Monroeville; son, Matt (Sheila) Howard of Monroeville; two daughters, Stacie (Patrick “Red”) Smith and Brett Howard both of Monroeville; two brothers, Kyle Howard of Dayton, Ohio and Edward (Joanne) Howard of Lincoln, California; six grandchildren, Cory Howard, Jacob Howard, Melissa Widenhoefer, Caitlyn Mishler, Colton Mishler, Stephen Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Lila & Luisa Widenhoefer, and Nova Howard.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kurt Pat Howard in 1988.
A Prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, in Monroeville, Indiana. A Holy Rosary service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.
Preferred memorial can be given to Monroeville Fire Department, Four Presidents Corners Historical Society, or Masses at St. Rose Catholic Church.
