Shirley M. Prentiss, 89, of Berne, Indiana passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 17, 2024, surrounded by her family at Swiss Village in Berne.
She was born on November 6, 1934, in Berne, Indiana to the late Edison and Berniece (Liechty) Lehmann. Shirley was united in marriage to Edward “Ed” Prentiss on September 28, 2002, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Shirley was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana, 1st Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and while living in Atlanta she was a member of the Rehoboth Baptist Church.
She worked in banquets at the Atlanta Hilton and the Fort Walton Beach Holiday Inn. While in Atlanta she worked for a premier catering company, Proof of the Pudding. She also was employed by Stanley Home Products since 1952.
In her spare time, she enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. Shirley loved music and sang in the Mennonite Choral Society in the Messiah, Creation, Elijah, and 7 Last Words starting in 1951.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ed Prentiss of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Vicki (Gary) Luebke of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son Brad (Margaret) Hines of Aubrey, Texas; daughter, Janelle Miller of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; sister, Karen (Roy) Lehman of Berne, Indiana; sister, Wanda (Paul) Smith of Columbus Grove, Ohio; sister, Arlene Lehmann of Fort Wayne, Indiana; grandson, Kris (Ashley) Luebke of Fort Wayne, Indiana; great-grandson, Noel Luebke of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Lehman.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jim Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery of Berne, Indiana.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana, and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Preferred memorials can be given to First Mennonite Church – Missions, Fort Walton 1st Baptist – Missions, or the Hope Clinic.
