Shirley “Jean” Oetting, 90, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur, Indiana.
She was born December 25, 1932, in St Joe, Indiana to Carl E. and Edna M. (Jackson) Perkins. Jean was united in marriage to Arnold Oetting May 28, 1954.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she was involved with the Stephen Ministry.
While her children were younger she was employed at Hartzler’s Sporting Goods in Fort Wayne. Jean was a faithful wife, mother, daughter, and grandmother, which she cherished.
Jean was devoted to her family and was active in her children’s activities. Being the wife of the athletic director at Paul Harding High School, she supported his efforts by taking pride in managing their home and attending athletic events at the school. Jean found enjoyment in playing the piano and playing games with family. She was an avid fan of Purdue basketball and football.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold Oetting of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Randy (Betty) Oetting of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Ryan (Alexandra Da Fonte) Oetting of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Robin Caylor of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Erickson, Greg (Abby) Caylor, Jenna (Dave) Melvin, Ryan Caylor, Chad Oetting, Megan Oetting, and Kate Oetting; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by in-laws, Evie (Oetting) and Phil DeBolt of Decatur, Indiana, Dorothy (Oetting) Williams of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Dorothy (Kukelhan) Oetting of Fort Wayne. Indiana.
She was preceded in death by in-laws, Elmer Oetting, Paul and Theresa Oetting, Henry and Evelyn Oetting, Clarence Oetting and David Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Doug Croucher officiating. Entombment will be at Concordia Cemetery Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn funeral home in Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be given to Worship Anew.
