Sandra Sue McIntyre, 75, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.
She was born on October 10, 1944, in Decatur, Indiana to the late John Doherty and the late Mary (Davidson) Doherty. She married Lester L. McIntyre on December 14, 1963, in Geneva, Indiana and he survives.
Sandy was a member of the Moose Lodge #1311 in Decatur.
She was a 1962 graduate of Geneva High School and also a graduate of Lutheran School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She was the 3rd EMT hired by Adams County EMS. Sandy was a registered nurse for Dr. Zurcher, Dr. Rich, and Dr. Greene in addition to working at Swiss Village in Berne where she served as a charge nurse for close to a decade.
Sandy enjoyed fishing…anywhere and anytime. She spent time teaching her grandchildren how to fish also. Bingo was also an important activity she enjoyed and was known as “Bingo Grandma”. She liked attending country music concerts in Kentucky in addition to traveling with family to other locations around the country. She would spend time with her sisters visiting garage sales in the area.
She is survived by her husband, Lester McIntyre of Decatur, Indiana; son, Lonnie McIntyre of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Sherri McIntyre-Renz of Leesburg, Indiana; brother, Michael (Linda) Doherty of Geneva, Indiana; sister, Vickie (Randy) Brotherton of Bryant, Indiana; sister, Carol (Gene) Bodle of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Kay (Clarol) Strasburg of Portland, Indiana; four grandchildren, Joe Kumfer, Quinn (Kierstin) Kumfer, Natalie (Ben) Girod, and Kyle McIntyre; and four great-grandchildren, Bentley Girod, Jamison Girod, Kove Dickinson, and Kaysleigh Kumfer.
Sandy was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Doherty and a sister, Wendy Doherty.
In following Sandy’s wishes, there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered at a later date in a location she specified and enjoyed.
