Ruth I. Scheumann, 91, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at IU Health Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born November 2, 1930, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of the late Frederick E. Oehler and the late Lida A. (Grotrian) Oehler. Ruth was united in marriage to Robert F Scheumann on June 27, 1953, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Soest. They were married 66 years before Bob’s death on July 19, 2019.
Ruth graduated from Hoagland High School class of 1949. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Ladies Guild. She was member of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association. Ruth and Bob were volunteers at Lutheran Life Villages for many years.
She was employed at International Harvester before driving school bus for East Allen County Schools for nine years, at the same time she was attending college at IPFW where she graduated with a degree in Computer Science. All the while, cherishing the time she spent in her most important vocation, being a homemaker and raising her family. She retired from Kmart Head Quarters in Troy, Michigan.
In Ruth’s younger years, she was an avid bowler at Villa Lanes sponsored by Three Kings Restaurant in Hoagland. She enjoyed puzzles, quilting, reading, her computer, gardening, and following all her kids, and grandkids sporting events. Ruth and Bob enjoyed local and international travel together.
Survivors include her son, Marshall Scheumann of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Robyn (Chris) Mahlan of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Timothy (Kim) Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Troy (Shannon) Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Tami) Scheumann, Chad Scheumann, Alex (Brittany) Scheumann, Aleece (Mack) Meyers, Nick (Jamie) Scheumann, Nate Scheumann, Emily Scheumann, Jessi (Tony) Bruns, and John Mahlan; two step- grandchildren, Haylie (Tyler) Garrison and Kenna Mahlan; 11 great-grandchildren, Madilyn Scheumann, Grace Scheumann, Grant Scheumann, Kennady Scheumann, Carsyn Bruns, Jude Bruns, Makaila Meyers, Reece Meyers, Kori Scheumann, Layni Scheumann, and Hadlee Scheumann; and two step great-grandchildren, Mason Meyers and Bailey Bruns.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Scheumann; three children in infancy, Terry, Barry and Cindy Scheumann; two brothers, Walter and Otto Oehler; and three sisters, Dorothy Bearman, Edna Braun, and Helen (Meyer) Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Interment will follow in the St John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen.
Friends and Family will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 Monday, January 17, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church- Bingen Parish Hall and one hour prior to services on Tuesday also at the church.
Preferred memorials can be made to Worship Anew and Lutheran Life Villages.
