Ruth M Counterman

Ruth M. Counterman, 90, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023.

She was born on September 3, 1932 in Hoagland, Indiana to the late William Boyd Morton and the late Esther (Kleine) Morton.

Ruth was united in marriage to Paul E. Counterman, Sr. on November 26, 1950 at Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland, Indiana, and he preceded her in death.

Ruth graduated from Hoagland High School in 1950.  She was employed by The Molding Company in Hoagland from April, 1976 to August, 1989.  She was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church and the Hoagland Area Advancement Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Debbie (Ken) Drake of Flat Rock, North Carolina; son, Paul E (Sheila) Counterman Jr. of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Cindy Counterman McDougall of Van Wert, Ohio; son, Sam (Janelle) Counterman of Hoagland, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ben Counterman, Claire Counterman, Josh (Ashley) McDougall, and Casey McDougall; and two great grandchildren, Denver McDougall and Addysun McDougall.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Scheumann, three brothers, Richard Morton,Don Morton and Tom Morton, and two sisters, LaVern Kaufman and Betty Harper.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland, Indiana, with  Pastor Richard Vonesh officiating.  Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery, Hoagland.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to Antioch Lutheran Church or the Hoagland Fire and EMS.
