Ruby L. Werling, 74, of Decatur, Indiana passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 4, 2022.
She was born on May 27, 1948, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Chester Bowen and the late Bonita (Barkley) Bowen. Ruby was united in marriage to Lester Werling on March 10, 1980.
Ruby was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim. She was also a member of the Gecode Club and the Ladies of the Moose.
She was employed in her younger years at GE in Decatur, and was employed by Bi-County Services for several years. She worked in private healthcare, providing care to many in the area…. she was a sermon in shoes.
Ruby was a devoted wife to her husband, mother to her children “accidents or adopted”, Grammy to her grandchildren, and GG to her great-grandchildren. She had a heart for service to others, following the Golden Rule. She loved spending time with her family, cooking for them along with friends brought her great joy. Ruby was also fond of the three C’s camping, cocktails, and country music.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Werling of Decatur, Indiana; two daughters, Tammera (Gregg) Schultz and Stephanie (Bryan) Jordan both of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Randy (Michelle) Scheumann of Monroeville, Indiana and Xavier Juarez of Decatur, Indiana; two brothers, Rex (Addie) Bowen of Woodburn, Indiana and Ronald (Pat) Bowen of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister-in-law, Sally Bowen of Monroeville, Indiana; brother-in-law, Richard Hartmann of Ossian, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Kevin (Shantel) Schultz, Derek (Julia) Schultz, Carissa (fiancé Wes Timmons) Schultz, Spencer (Lisa Schewe) Scheumann, Bethany (significant other, Jessica Hardesty) Evans, Rebecca (Travis) Skates, Melisha Jordan, Bryan N. Jordan, Brenna (Andrew) Brinson, Carson Thompson, William Thompson, and Reid Scheumann; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricky and Ross Bowen; and two sisters, Rita Jauregui and Ruth Hartmann.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church-Friedheim with Pastor Daniel Dahling officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery- Friedheim
Family and friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday November 10, 2022 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church-Friedheim, Bi-County Services, or donor’s choice.
Arrangements are by the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur.
