Roy D. Cotner, 72, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021, at his residence following a short battle of cancer.

He was born on July 15, 1948 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Donald Cotner and the late Eleanor (Thompson) Cotner. Roy was united in marriage to Sherry (Hey) Cotner on July 14, 2000 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged following his service.

Roy was employed as a radiology technician at Lutheran Hospital and retired after 41 years of service.

Baseball was a very important part of Roy’s life. He shared that joy with young people in the community by being instrumental in the creation of the St. Joe Township T-Ball League. He was a passionate fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Notre Dame Football. He loved spending time with his family at the beach and Disney World, especially with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Cotner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three daughters, Jennifer (Chuck) Volz of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Stephanie (Mike) Fabini of Fort Wayne, Indiana,  and Amy (Jeff) Story of Hermitage, Tennessee; four sons,        Robert Gephart of Hackensack, New Jersey, Timothy (Heather) Gephart of Decatur, Indiana        , Ronald (Megan) Gephart of Decatur, Indiana, and Donald (Melissa) Gephart of Monroe, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, Emily Gephart, Chance Gephart, Avery Volz, Justin Gephart, Michael Fabini, Bethany Gephart, Joseph Fabini, Taylor Brown, Peyton Gephart, Olivia Fabini, Chase Brown, Sophia Fabini, Easton Story and Rowan Story.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sue (Burkdoll) Cotner; a granddaughter, Riley Cotner-Volz; a sister, Arlynn Cotner (in infancy) and a brother, Max Cotner.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Richard Hartman officiating. Military Honors will be conducted at Willshire Cemetery with the American Legion Post #43 Color Guard.

Friends and family will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Bereavement Services at Lutheran Hospital.

Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana.
