Rowene Iola Whisler, 96, of Berne, Indiana went home to be with Jesus surrounded by her family at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at her residence.
She was born on October 17, 1923, in Berne, Indiana to the late David Zuercher and the late Leona (Lehman) Zuercher. Rowene was united in marriage to Robert Whisler on January 16, 1946, and he preceded her in death on March 11, 2010.
Rowene was a member of the First Missionary Church in Berne.
She taught piano and accordion lessons at Zuercher Music in Berne for many years.
Rowene really enjoyed watching birds outside her home, especially Cardinals and Hummingbirds. She was an accomplished musician who taught piano and accordion lessons out of her home for many years. She also had a “green thumb” and was an excellent gardener.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Larry) Morgan of Muncie, Indiana; daughter, Janelle (fiancé Larry Dahlgren) Williamson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Ken Whisler of Geneva, Indiana; son, Kevin (Elaine) Whisler of Auburn, Washington; three brothers, Howard Zuercher of Berne, Indiana, Sam Zuercher of Berne, Indiana, and Paul Zuercher of Berne, Indiana; sister, Marilyn (Larry) Graham of South Roxanna, Illinois; sister-in-law, Dorine Zuercher of Berne, Indiana; 13 grandchildren, Tonya (Kevin) Sharp, Scott (Lisa) Morgan, Chip Morgan, Greg (Kim) Morgan, Stephanie (Teresa) Morgan, Jesse Henn, James (Tricia) Henn, Angie Williamson, Miranda Murphy, Marshall (Caitlyn) Whisler, Corey (Jacob) Berry, Derek (Lindsay) Johnson, and Cory Johnson; 29 great-grandchildren, Elijah and Ellie; Alex, Tyler, Hunter and Haley; Ryan, Kyle, Julie, and Lyndi; Storey, Courtney, Kelsey, Olivia, Victoria and Logan; Whitney, Lauren, Jessica, and Vanessa; Jonathon, Samuel, Isaac, and Josiah; Katelyn, Abigail and Caleb; Nathan and Jaidyn; and 13 great-great-grandchildren, Cameron, Nathan, and Christian; Adriene and Declan; Karyssa and Uriah; Sophie; Asher and Charlee; Alena; Zavier; Leia.
Rowene was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whisler in infancy; four Brothers: Gary Zuercher, Cliff Zuercher, James Zuercher, and Arthur Zuercher; and two Sisters: Pauline Solano and Martha Schug.
“A drive bye” visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at the First Missionary Church in Berne. When a visitor arrives, they will be directed to follow a path which allows them to greet the family. You must remain in your vehicles at all times. This has been approved by the Adams County Health Department.
Due to guidelines established by the State of Indiana in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held. You are invited to visit and “like” the Facebook page for Zwick & Jahn where a video will be posted of her service which will be held later on Tuesday. Private burial was held at M.R.E. Cemetery of Berne.
