Ronald D. Hill

Ronald D. “Ron” Hill , 85, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Friday, September 16, 2022 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Indiana.

He was born on September 9, 1937, in Van Wert, Ohio to the late Eular H. Hill and the late Cleo I. (Krick) Hill. Ron was united in marriage to Beverly Sue Fortney on July 13, 1957 in Decatur, Indiana and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2022.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Decatur, Indiana.

Ron was employed at Phelps Dodge for 31 years before his retirement in 1998. After retirement he went on to work at North Adams Community School for 12 years.

Ron loved painting pictures, woodworking, and lawnmower drag racing. You could find Ron happily tinkering in his shop fixing anything.

Survivors include three daughters, Denise (Barry) Scherer of Monroeville, Indiana, Debbi (Craig) Foor and Donna (Bob) Barger both of Decatur, Indiana; sister, May Moore of Decatur, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Scherer, Nathan (Liz) Scherer, Courtney (Matt) Taylor, Brent (Naomi) Foor, Kylie (Tyler) Cress, Devan (Eric) Isch and MaKenzie Barger; and 12 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Maverick, Hadley Scherer; Walker and Lainey Scherer, and baby Taylor; Wyatt and Aria Foor; Easton Sauer; Conner and Bowen Cress; and Owen Isch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Hill; two sisters, Melba Maxwell and Crilla “Susie” Hill; and a brother, Eugene Hill.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Michelle Isch officiating. Burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials can be given to Decatur Wrestling Club.

Arrangements are by the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
