Roland Bultemeyer, 89, of Gulf Shores, Alabama passed away Monday morning, August 9, 2021, at Diversicare of Foley.
He was born on September 6, 1931 in Decatur, Indiana to William and Milda (Scheumann) Bultemeyer. Roland was united in marriage to Carma L. Nelson on October 30, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Hicksville, Ohio and she preceded him in death on April 22, 1997. He then married Barbara Russell on November 27, 2004, in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Roland proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps before being honorably discharged on March 7, 1955.
He graduated in 1950 from Monmouth High School. Roland was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Foley, Alabama. He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen in Decatur, Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne and Peace Lutheran Church in Angola, Indiana.
He worked for Allen Dairy as a home delivery milkman for 37 years before he retired. He was also employed at Dana Corporation and Kresge Warehouse.
He is survived by wife, Barbara Bultemeyer of Gulf Shores, Alabama; son, Douglas G. Bultemeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two daughters, Deborah S. (Roger) Dobrovodsky of Zionsville, Indiana and Diane K. (John) Ray of Carmel, Indiana; six brothers, Richard Bultemeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Edward (Bonnie) Bultemeyer, James (Cheryl) Bultemeyer, Fritz (LouAnn) Bultemeyer, Stan Bultemeyer, and Jerry Bultemeyer all of Decatur, Indiana; three sisters, Marlene Duffey of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rosie (Waldo) Bultemeier of Decatur, Indiana and Connie Hawkins of Decatur, Indiana; three grandchildren, Cara Michelle (Kory) Fay, Jenna Marie (Alex) Anderson, and John Conner Ray; seven step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, Samuel Elias Fay, Lucy Jo Fay, Hezekiah Lukas Fay, Matilda Sue Anderson, and Arlo Wallace Anderson; and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steven Bultemeyer; and two sisters, Kay Stoppenhagen & Eileen Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Concordia Cemetery Gardens. For those not able to attend, the service will be livestreamed on the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home Facebook page. The family requests that all who attend wear masks. Physical distancing will be held for the service and additional seating will be available in the parish hall.
Family and friends will be received for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday in the Parish Hall.
