Roger Allen Macke

February 3, 1934 — June 8, 2020

Roger Allen Macke, 86, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on February 3, 1934, in Fort Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Herman C. “Pete” Macke and the late Marie (Bulmahn) Macke. Roger was united in marriage to Carolyn “Carrie” Jean Borchelt on December 27, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church, in Fort Wayne, Indiana and she survives

He was a member of New Life Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne where he held several offices. He was also involved with the Allen County Jail Ministry and was very active in the Gideons International.

Roger was a 1952 graduate of Concordia High School. He was a salesman for his entire life. He represented products in the municipal and food industry, staying with the same company for his entire career.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during peacetime following the Korean War.

Roger enjoyed his time at Lake James along with fishing and golfing. He was most rewarded by being a good Christian Steward toward others and being an active church leader.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn “Carrie” Macke of Hoagland, IN; daughter, Kim (Ken) Huner of Milan, MI; son, Kip Macke; daughter, Kay (Jeff) Wagner of Ruskin, FL; son, Keith (Cindy) Macke of Hoagland, IN; son-in-law, Ken (Jackie) Knox of Auburn, IN; son, Kraig (Eileen Smith) Macke of Columbia City, IN; daughter, Krista (Mark) Berning of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Kozy Scott of Bexley, OH; daughter, Kate (Bob) Brubaker of Fort Wayne, IN; son, Kevin (Erin) Macke of Hoagland, IN; sister, Maxine M. Remenschneider of New Haven, IN; sister, Gloria Nimtz of Columbia City, IN; 34 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren with two more on the way!

Roger was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Knox in 2015; two grandchildren, JaBraun Knox in 2012 and Noah Macke in 2016.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2020, in the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen Parish Hall. In addition, on Friday, June 12, 2020, a “Drive-Bye Visitation” will be held at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service for Roger. For both visitation periods, visitors will be given directions upon arrival.

A private funeral service for Roger’s family and extended family will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2020, at the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen with Rev. James Keller and Rev. Larry Merino officiating. Friends are invited to watch the service on Zwick & Jahn’s Facebook Live feed.

In lieu of flowers, Roger’s family would ask that preferred memorials be directed to the Gideons International or New Life Lutheran Church.
