Roger L. Flueckiger

September 9, 1926 — November 29, 2022

Roger Lee Flueckiger, 96, of Berne, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana.  He was born on September 9, 1926, to the late Tilman Flueckiger and Clara (Gilliom) Flueckiger.  He was united in marriage on September 28, 1947, to Irene Jeanette Graber in Berne Indiana.  She preceded him in death on November 21, 1985.  On October 14, 1989, he married Mary Mina (Gilliom) Zurcher in Berne, Indiana.  She preceded him in death on March 23, 2022.

Roger grew up in Berne, Indiana, and graduated from Berne High School.  He also graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne, IN. He retired after 30 years from First Bank of Berne in 1992 as Senior Vice President.  Prior to that, he was General Manager at V.C. Graber Produce in Berne.  He was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne where he served as an Elder.  Previously he was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne.

Roger had a deep love for God and the Church, and his faith influenced every aspect of his life. He shared the love of Christ through his words and his actions.   He was generous in giving to organizations and to people in need of a helping hand, and always taught and modeled that giving brought back the best returns.

Roger was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them.  It brought him much joy to see his extended family grow over the years. Roger never met a stranger–he loved meeting new people and taking an interest in their lives.

Roger loved sports of all kinds, especially baseball and basketball. He played high school sports for the Berne Bears and played regular pick-up basketball games with members of the Berne Bears' best basketball teams.  He coached the V.C. Graber Cardinals Little League team for many years.  In sports and in life, Roger was a great teacher and coach, always encouraging self-improvement and never giving up on anyone.

Roger is survived by his children; Randy (Anne) Flueckiger of Georgetown, Texas; Mike (Joyce) Flueckiger of Atlanta, Georgia; Larry (Bette) Flueckiger of Greenwood, Indiana; Karen (Stephen) Intagliata of Springfield, Virginia; Diane (Tom) Celie of Venice, Florida and R. Lee Flueckiger of Wolcottville, Indiana; eleven grandchildren Tracy Trinkle, Scott (Dana) Trinkle, Jim (Jenny) Flueckiger, Peter (Rebecca) Flueckiger, Rachel (Matt) Angrisani, Eric (Melissa) Flueckiger, Evan (Laura) Flueckiger, Andrew (Diana) Intagliata, Lucas (Jill) Intagliata, Emily (Ryan) Frazier, Todd (Beth) Celie; and seventeen great-grandchildren; step-son Brian (Barbara) Zurcher of McKinney, Texas and step-daughter Diane (Kevin) Affolder of Acworth, Georgia; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Tilman and Clara Flueckiger, his first wife, Irene Flueckiger, his second wife Mary Flueckiger, his brother Wallace Flueckiger; and sister, Kaye (Flueckiger) Cartwright.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2022, at Cross Community Church in Berne with Pastor Stephen “Tig” Intagliata and Pastor Mike Wertenberger officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church on Monday.
