Robert L. Swygart, Jr.

Robert L.  Swygart, Jr., 79, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at his residence.

He was born on Sunday, June 25, 1944 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Robert L. Swygart, Sr. and the late Virginia A. (Waterman) Swygart.  He married Janice Erxleben on May 20, 2005 in Zion Lutheran Church.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.

Buss was employed as a dispatcher foreman at Automatic Sprinkler in Monroe, Indiana.  Following his employment at Automatic Sprinkler, he drove truck for D & T Trucking in Decatur.

Buss loved his horses which most definitely included trail riding and enjoying the beauty of nature that accompanied those rides. Buss was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his entire family.  He also enjoyed spending time camping with his family and friends at Amishville.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Swygart of Decatur, Indiana; son, Michael L. (Lynn Wungnema) Swygart of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Eliza (Josh Brooks) Erxleben of Bloomington, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Jo (Charlie) Hill of Berne, Indiana; sister, Sandra (Gene) McKean of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Patricia (Don) Kriegel of Decatur, Indiana; mother of his two sons, Mary Lynn Swygart of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Adam Swygart, AJ (Deserae) Swygart, Zachary Swygart, Trevor Swygart, and Lorenz Conrad; and two great-grandchildren, Capri Swygart and Ridge Swygart.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert G. "Bud" Swygart; and a brother, Tom Swygart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 7, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Chaplain Kris McPherson officiating.  Interment will follow at Decatur Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 12 noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, August 6, 2023,  at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Heartland Hospice, Turnstone Center, or the donor's choice.
