Robert G. Melcher

Robert G. Melcher, 80, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday, March 13, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, following injuries suffered in an automobile accident that happened earlier in the day.

He was born on August 25, 1942 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Harold Melcher and the late Garnita (Gerke) Melcher.

Bob was united in marriage to Patricia L. Daring on October 22, 1966 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock. She preceded him in death on November 11, 1994. He was then united in marriage to Louise Fink and she survives.

Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.

Bob retired from IBM as a service tech following 25+ years of service.

Bob was known as everybody’s mechanic.  There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or find a work around to make function in a better way.  He had a unique way about seeing the world around him…and wasn’t afraid to share that with others.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Enyeart – Melcher of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Teri (John) Bechtel of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter Cheryl (Eric) Stockman of Decatur, Indiana; son, David Melcher of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Marjorie (Tom) Myers of New Haven, Indiana; and five grandchildren, Benjamin Bechtel, JP Bechtel III, Nicole Bechtel, Christina (Frank) Salerno, and Samantha Stockman.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock and Pastor Berett Steffen officiating.  Burial will be at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery – Bingen.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Decatur and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
