Robert H Bowen

Robert H. Bowen, 89, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024 at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

He was born on July 22, 1934 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Kermit Bowen and the late Bertha (Heath) Bowen.

Bob was united in marriage to Gloria L. Hormann on July 31, 1955, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana and she preceded him in death on February 3, 2023 after 67 years of marriage.

Bob graduated from Pleasant Mills High School in 1952.  He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur where he served as an usher.

Bob’s love was in farming, where he farmed his family farm with his wife Gloria.  He also worked at Phelps Dodge for 32 years and North Adams Community Schools for 10 years as a groundskeeper.

Bob loved farming and sports, especially the Indiana Hoosiers.  He attended all the church and sporting activities of his daughter and son.  He helped coach the Zion junior high basketball team, leading them to an undefeated season in 1972.  He also coached junior and senior league softball.  He loved playing euchre and square dancing, and he met his wife Gloria at one of the square dances at the Hayloft.    He participated in tractor pulls, and in his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling.

Survivors include his son, James A. (Karen Hilyard) Bowen of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Diane K. (Tim) Zeser of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Ann Bowen of Decatur, Indiana; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Arnold and Jonathon (Melissa) Zeser both of Beavercreek, Ohio;
eight great grandchildren, Jillian Arnold, Harper Zeser, Oliver Arnold, Maddox Zeser, Valerie Arnold, Stockton Zeser, Xavier Arnold, and Bowen Zeser.

In addition to his parents and wife Gloria, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Bowen.

A Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Zachary Oedewaldt officiating.  Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana.

Family and Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service.

Preferred memorials can be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
