Richard E. Paul

Richard E. “Dick” Paul, 93, of Geneva, Indiana passed away Wednesday evening, April 16, 2025, at Swiss Village in Berne.

He was born on December 10, 1931 in Mercer County, Ohio to Edward and Elizabeth (Bollenbacher) Paul. Dick was united in marriage to Phyllis J. Schaadt on April 22, 1956, at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Berne, Indiana, and they would have celebrated 69 years together this year.

Dick served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to1955 and was honorably discharged.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Berne, Indiana. Dick was also a member of the American Legion #468 in Berne and the V.F.W. in Geneva and served in the Honor Guard for both organizations.

Dick was a graduate of Celina High School Class of 1949. Richard retired from McIntosh in Berne, Indiana following many years. Additionally, he spent many years farming.

He loved fishing and hunting. Dick truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Paul of Geneva, Indiana; two sons, Alan (Belinda) Paul of Geneva, Indiana and Randy (Jodie Uggen) Paul of Berne, Indiana; granddaughter, Jaime Herman of Berne, Indiana; and three great-grandchildren, Avery, Paul, and Nora Herman.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Edward Paul; grandson, Derek Lee Paul; brother, Edward Paul; and half-brother, Robert Paul.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Mike Wertenberger officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana, and Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army in conjunction with the American Legion Post #468.

Family and friends will be received from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials can be given to Riley Hospital for Children or Victory Junction.
