Richard L. Howe, 83, of Monroeville, IN died Friday evening May 10, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN.
Richard was born May 22, 1940 in DeKalb County, IN. He was a son of the late Lionel S. Howe, the late Betty J. (Layman) Wagner and the late Clifford Wagner.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard, retiring from the military in 2000 after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his time in the Air Force, he served in England in the 1960’s.
Richard was united in marriage to Marcile M. Converset on October 10, 1964 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, IN, and she survives.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville and the VFW Post #10006 in Fort Wayne, IN. He graduated from Monroeville High School in 1960. He was an avid camper and golfer.
Richard was employed by the Air National Guard, being stationed at the 122nd Fighter Wing in Fort Wayne. He was also a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Southeast YMCA from 1975 until the early 2000’s.
Richard is lovingly survived by his wife, Marcile M. Howe of Monroeville; son, Richard L. Howe, Jr. of Monroeville; daughter, Cheryl L. (Robert) Hart of Monroeville; daughter, Jana M. Hopper of Harrison, OH; son, James C. Howe of Monroeville; daughter, Elizabeth A. (Joseph) Bradfield of Huntertown, IN; seven grandchildren: Ashley L. (Mathew) Hammond, Robert B. (Ariel) Hart, III, Brittany A. (Roberto) Nunez, Brian L. Hart, Isabella J. Howe, Nolan L. Bradfield, and Tanner J. Bradfield; seven great-grandsons; and many grand dogs.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jerry G. Hopper; brother, Charles C. Howe; and mother-in-law, Nola M. Converset.
A funeral service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Pastor Ralph Klinker officiating. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #420 Color Guard.
Inurnment will follow at a later time at the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Monroeville.
Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville.
Preferred Memorials are to the American Legion Post #420 and Humane Fort Wayne.
