Richard E. Amstutz

Richard E. Amstutz , 86, of Berne, Indiana passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Indiana.

He was born on November 7, 1935, in Berne, Indiana to the late Omen Amstutz and the late Selma (Hirschy) Amstutz.

Richard was united in marriage to Eldonna Habbegger on November 8, 1956, at First Mennonite Church in Berne, and she preceded him in death on September 25, 1999. He then married Hannah R. (Habegger) Schaadt on January 12, 2002, at First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana.

He worked at Dunbar Furniture for six years, and then starting his employment at International Harvester for 30 years before his retirement.

He graduated from Geneva High School. Richard was a member of First Missionary Church where he served as head usher and was the Trustee for three years. He was also a member of the Antique Bike Club in Portland, Indiana for several years.

Richard is a collector of Model A 29 and a Model A 31 pickup trucks. He had a love of old model trucks. Over the years Richard had several ponies and horses that he had on his farm.

Survivors include his loving wife, Hannah Amstutz of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Michael Amstutz of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Randall (Michele) Amstutz of Berne, Indiana; daughter, Debra Wilson of Berne, Indiana; three step-daughters, Charlotte Hedrick of LaFountain, Indiana, Jane (Ed) Millhouse of Garrett, Indiana, and Theresa Brown of Berne, Indiana; step-son, Henry (Penny) Schaadt of Berne, Indiana; brother, Robert (Sarah) Amstutz of California; sister, Carolyn Christner of Decatur, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Schwartz, Zach (Cristy) Wilson, Aaron Amstutz, Amber Amstutz, Austin (Tabitha) Amstutz, and Ashley (Alena) Amstutz; eight great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Edward and Jim Amstutz; and a sister, Mary Brewster.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2022 at First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Dathen Foust and Pastor Jim Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow in the M.R.E. Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel, Berne, and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church .

Preferred memorials can be given to First Missionary Church Missions, Miracle Hill in North Carolina or Lima Rescue Missions.
