Ray D. Gill, 88, of Mason, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at his residence.
He was born on July 12, 1935 in Athens, Alabama to the late William C. Gill and the late Mildred (Graul) Gill.
On December 20, 1959 Ray was united in marriage to Marlene (Martin) Gill in Berne, Indiana, and she survives.
Ray was a member of Cross United Church of Christ in Berne, where he served the Lord by being a church elder and then president of the congregation. He was a member of the Yorktown Lions Club; the Wayne County Ohio Junior Achievement, where he held the position of President for 8 years; and the American Hardware Manufacturers Association, where he was National Chairman in 1993. Ray also served on several boards of directors, including the Dunlap Memorial Hospital Orrville, OH; First National Bank of Orrville, OH; CNC Metal Products, Inc., School Board of South Adams Schools Corporation, Berne, IN and Berne Storm Water Utility Board. Ray also served on the Board of Adams County Community Foundation in Decatur, IN.
Ray was President and CEO of Orrco, Inc. in Orrville, OH. Previously, Ray worked at Allegheny International in Pittsburgh, PA; Jackson Mfg. Company in Harrisburg, PA; and Marsh Supermarkets in Yorktown, IN.
Ray served his country in the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean War, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1956.
Ray enjoyed flying, being a private pilot, also golf, along with snow skiing and water skiing.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene A. Gill of Mason, Ohio; daughter, Michelle DeRae (Eric) Leeson of Mason, Ohio; brother, James (Dianna) Gill of Albany, Indiana; sister, Norma Faye (William) Gentry of Solana Beach, California; half-sister, Judy (Kent) McKinley of Gaston, Indiana; Four Grandchildren, Evan (Allison) Leeson, Gwen (Alex) HoltLeeson, Austin Leeson, and Emily Leeson; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Leeson.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel, with the Rev. Timothy Price officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday March 9, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials can be given to Adams County Boys and Girls Club, or Morgenstern Workshop, Geneva, Indiana and mailed to the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur- 520 N. 2nd St. Decatur, Indiana 46733.
