Phyllis J. Everett

September 3, 1933 — November 29, 2023

Phyllis J. Everett, 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne.

She was born on September 3, 1933, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Herman “Pete” Hockemeyer and late Sophia Riebersal. Phyllis was united in marriage to Herman L. Everett on January 23, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen and he preceded her in death on September 15, 2010.

Phyllis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church – Friedheim where she was active in the Morning Glories group.

She was a devoted mother, farm wife, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. She was employed at the First State Bank of Decatur for 30 years.

Phyllis was especially proud of her family.  She was fond of her favorite dog “Annie”. Over the course of her 90 years, she lived on the same family farm until moving to Swiss Village two months ago.  She achieved her dream of rebuilding her great-grandparents’ farmhouse, where she still lived today.  This project coupled another love of hers, flowers, in the design and maintenance of that house. She enjoyed collecting antiques, collecting dolls, baking cookies for many “volunteer consumers”, traveling in the motorhome with Herm to attend their granddaughter’s horse shows, going to Bellmont Basketball games with friends, and above all else, going shopping anywhere…anytime.  She was a very kind soul who achieved great satisfaction in assisting others in their lives.

She is survived by son, Randy (Pam) Everett of Decatur, Indiana; son, Rod (Lori) Everett of Mukwonago, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Karly (Charles) Smith, Erin Everett, Kolton Everett, Ben Everett; five great-grandchildren, Kaden Everett, Morrison Everett, Lannister Everett, Lyla Smith, and Landon Smith; and Herman's brother, Kenneth Everett of Decatur, Indiana along with nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Allmandinger.

A funeral service will be held at noon 12 noon on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church – Friedheim with Pastor Matthew Ulmer officiating.  Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery – Friedheim.

Friends and family will be received from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church on Tuesday.
