Paul William Meyer, 91, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away early Wednesday morning, February 19 2025, at Golden Years Homestead in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on July 22, 1933, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Paul A. G. and Velma (Salomon) Meyer. Paul was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Scheumann on October 4, 1958 at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana where he served as the former president of Central Lutheran School; was chairman of the congregation; and was an elder for 11 years. Paul served as president of Lakes James Lutheran Chapel for over 19 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #330 and the VFW Post #2457 both in New Haven.
Paul was a 1951 graduate of New Haven High School and attended Indiana University in Fort Wayne. He retired as a special services supervisor from GTE in Fort Wayne. Following his retirement, Paul drove bus for East Allen Community Schools, Bishop Luers High School, and Fort Wayne Lutheran Schools for a period spanning 33 years.
Paul greatly loved spending time at his lake cottage on Lake James.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen M. Meyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Roger (Kristina) Meyer of Woodburn, Indiana; daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Gresley of Ossian, Indiana; son, Ryan (Pamela) Meyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Leona A. Thompson of Frisco, Texas; sister-in-law, Wilma Meyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Robert (Kristin) Gresley, Emily (Aaron) Anthony, Michael (Hope) Gresley, Caroline Meyer, Isaac (Aubrey) Meyer, Mitchell Meyer, and McKenna (Zach Mabee) Meyer; and six great-grandchildren, Nolan and Easton Anthony; Luke and Lucy Gresley; Claire Gresley; Delilah Meyer; and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Willard G. Meyer.
A funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana with Pastor Scott Zeckzer officiating. Burial will follow at Old Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana with Military Graveside to be conducted by the American Legion Post #330 of New Haven, Indiana.
Friends and family will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana and 30 minutes prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to Worship Anew, Emanuel Lutheran Church in New Haven, or Central Lutheran School.
