Paul G. Mendez, 93, of Markle and formerly of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Wednesday morning, April 27, 2022, at Markle Health & Rehabilitation.
He was born on December 11, 1928, in Malakoff, Texas to the late Isaac Mendez and Alejandra (Guerrero) Mendez.
Paul was united in marriage to Dolores M. Ayala on October 3, 1950, in Dallas, Texas. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2017.
He was employed at Masolite Concrete Products in Fort Wayne with 44 years of service.
Paul was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Teamsters Local 414; and the St. Mary’s Hispanic Society.
He loved Cleveland Browns football, Cleveland Indians baseball, Notre Dame Football and Bellmont High School Wrestling. Paul enjoyed his daily walks around Decatur. Above all he loved spending time with his children and extended family.
Paul is survived by son, Paul Jr. Mendez of Decatur, Indiana; son, Edward M. (Dianna) Mendez of West Palm Beach, Florida; son, Eric J. (Margaret) Mendez of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Karen D. (Marlin) Bowman of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Eileen J. (Chabela) Mendez of Oakland, California; son, David J. Mendez of Lebanon, Indiana; son, Matthew N. Mendez of Decatur, Indiana; son, Patrick A. Mendez of Madison, Indiana; sister, Connie (Richard) Moreno of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Alicia (Patrick) Mendez-McCarthy; Zivan (Yadira) Mendez; Gregory (Tiffany) Mendez; Alexander Mendez; Peter Johnson; Mary Johnson; Sean Andrews; Emma Mendez; Samuel Mendez; and three great-grandchildren, Ian Mendez, Alejandra Mendez and Lionis Favier.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Mary Robles, Barbara Gomez, Maria Del Jesus Chavarria, Annie (Garcia) Tyler, Tomasa Serna, and Rita Vargas and three brothers, Robert Mendez Sr., Manuel Mendez and Blas Mendez.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2022, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Ruppert officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. The f amily will receive friends following the Rosary from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022, at the funeral home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Masks are encouraged.
