Norbert E. Molthan, 93, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Parkview Randallia Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on October 17, 1927, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Martin A. Molthan and the late Clara H. (Burkamp) Molthan. Norb was united in marriage to Helen L. Miller on May 30, 1958 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Ossian and she preceded him in death on May 27, 1992. He was then united in marriage to Rosalyn J. (Baker) Gallmeyer on January 21, 1995 and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2016.
Norb served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army following his service.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church – Flatrock. He was also a member of the Heritage Lions Club and the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville.
Norb was a truck driver. During his years of truck driving, he was a member of the Teamsters Local #414 and drove for Western Auto and Stanadyne. In addition to his full time job, he also worked on the family farm which was over 100 years old.
Norb was a kind and generous man who was very devoted to his family. However, during basketball season, you better not interrupt his watching of IU. Norb was especially proud of his military service. He was very thankful and had special memories of his Honor Flight trip that was taken on April 26, 2017. He enjoyed gardening and raising pumpkins. He and his wife Helen were known in the Hoagland area as “The Pumpkin People”. Norb knew no strangers and always had a tale to tell.
Survivors include two daughters, Julia L. (“Butch”) Cheviron of Hoagland, Indiana and Cindy K. (Mary Elftman) Molthan of Gossport, Indiana; two granddaughters, Tayla (Ryan) Thorpe and Marissa (Alex) Heine; great-granddaughter, Quanah Thorpe; brother, Howard (Evelyn) Molthan of Corvalis, Oregon; three step-daughters, Carol (Mike) Shoof of Hoagland, Indiana, Patty (Jim) Thomas of Wolcottville, Indiana, and Pam (Dan) Green of Fort Wayne, Indiana; step-son, Michael Gallmeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 11 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, private family services will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church – Flatrock with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. Burial will follow the service at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery – Flatrock with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #420 Color Guard. A public Celebration of Life Service will be held at some point in the future when able.
Preferred memorials can be made to the Beth Ann Hoffman Fund or the St. John Lutheran Church – Flatrock Building Fund.
