Noah F. Schwartz

Noah F. Schwartz, 84, of Monroe, Indiana passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on January 10, 1940 in Berne, Indiana to the late Menno L. Schwartz and the late Fannie R. (Schwartz) Schwartz.  He was united in marriage to Sovilla N. Wengerd on August 27, 1961 in Berne, Indiana and she preceded him in death on June 29, 2022.

Noah was a member of the Old Order Amish.

He worked at Hitzer Stoves in Berne, Indiana for 50 years in production.  He also operated a produce business comprised of ten acres of strawberries.  It was through this work that he became known as the “Strawberry Man”.

He is survived by his son, Menno N.S. Schwartz of Rome City, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Anna B. Schwartz of Mooreland, Indiana; daughter, Susann N.S. (Paul L.) Hilty of Shipshewana, Indiana; son, Marvin N.S. (Elizabeth) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Arlene N.S. (Crist A.) Schmidt of Mooreland, Indiana; daughter, Kristine N.S. (Reuben) Girod of New Haven, Indiana; son, Mark N.S. (Elizabeth M.) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; son, Walter N.S. (Amanda K.) Schwartz of Shipshewana, Indiana; daughter, Marie N.S. (Emanuel E.) Girod of New Haven, Indiana; brother, Melvin F. (Rebecca) Schwartz; sister, Barbara F. Schwartz; brother, John F. Schwartz; sister, Irene F. Schwartz; sister, Rosina F. (Sam) Girod; brother, Walter F. (Miriam) Schwartz; sister, Lydiann F. (Joe) Schwartz; sister, Marie F. (Amos) Girod; 52 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth E. Schmidt; brother, Leroy L. (Josephine) Schwartz; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schwartz; two brothers-in-law, Sam G. Schwartz and Enos G. Schwartz.

A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Noah F. Schwartz residence, 1111 W 50 N Monroe, Indiana with Bishop David Christner officiating. Burial will take place at Winchester Cemetery in Monroe, Indiana.

Friends and family will be received from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, also at Noah F. Schwartz residence.
