Minnie C. Mertz, 96, of Berne, Indiana passed away Thursday morning, October 1, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne.
She was born on September 12, 1924, in Adams County, Indiana to Cyrus and Amanda (Breauchy) Steiner. Minnie married Ferris A. Mertz on March 2, 1947, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2005, after 58 years of marriage.
She was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana, and was very active in the Children’s Ministry.
Minnie was a homemaker and instrumental to her husband on the family farm.
She was a gifted quilter and made each of her grandchildren a quilt for their graduation and the firstborn great-grandchildren a baby quilt. She was an amazing cook and baker. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at her home.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosalyn “Jean” Moser of Kokomo, Indiana, Marcia (Jamie) Cressman and Janet (Troy) Lehman both of Berne, Indiana; son, Michael (Sandy) Mertz of Geneva, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Tamara (Mike) Brier, Michelle Moser, Lisa (Andy) Brotherton, Karla (Jeremiah) Lipscomb, Jennifer (Dr. Matt) Will, Jaime (Kraig) Beitler, Kelly (Aaron) Pence, Eric Lehman, Ken (Allie) Lehman, Kristi (Dustin) Cressman; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Victor Steiner, Ernest Steiner, & Jarvis Steiner; a sister, Marcella Huether; and two sons-in-law, Dean Von Gunten and Gerald Moser.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2020, at West Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Keith Rupp officiating. Burial will follow at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2020, at West Missionary Church.
Preferred memorials are to West Missionary Church – Missions or Children’s Complex.
Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana.
