Merlin W. Habegger, 90, Berne passed January 25, 2018 at Swiss Village where he was a resident. He was born to Homer and Tillie(Yoder)Habegger on February 10, 1927 in Adams Co. He was married on April 5, 1969 to Harriet Habegger.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and then started his working career as a building, concrete, and masonry contractor(M.W. Habegger Construction Co.). His greatest joy was building churches. He was also a local developer and started the Forest Hills area west of Berne.
In his retirement years he and his wife spent many winters in Florida with family and friends. He also continued developing Forest Hills.
Merlin was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family having fun and playing games. He had a positive personality and honored God in daily life and business practices. Merlin was a faithful member of the First Missionary Church, Berne.
Survivors include; one son, Steven Habegger of Mt.Juliet, TN., two daughters; Carol(Steven)Counsell of Indianapolis; Jane(Robert)Summers of Berne all from a previous marriage; a special daughter, Laurie(John)Kaeser of Berne; 8 grandchildren; Emily(Joe)Partin of Mt Juliet, TN.; Ben(Becky)Habegger of Murfreesboro, TN.; Chad Summers of Ft. Wayne; Sarah(Jorge)Tosado, Suzanna(Ramito)Tosado both of F.Wayne; Thomas(Jessica)Counsell, David(Laura)Counsell both of Indianapolis; Elizabeth(John)Sandvig of Grand Rapids, MI.; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Preceding in death are his parents, wife, brother, Glenn Habegger, 2 sisters; Vernelle Zurcher and Treva Wiederkehr.
Funeral services are Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm with visitation 1 hour prior to the services in the Swiss Village Auditorium. Visitation also Saturday, January 27 from 4 to 8 PM in the auditorium. Officiating is Dr. Wayne Steury. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery with military rites by Berne Post #468.
Preferred memorials are to First Mssionary Church Missions &/or the First Church of the Nazarene.
