Melvin K. Ohler, 80, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mel was born on March 30, 1944 to the late Kenneth Ohler and Ruth (Holle) Ohler in Decatur, Indiana.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Mel was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling. When Mel lived in Tennessee, he attended Union Hill Baptist Church.
Mel attended Pleasant Mills High School and graduated in 1962. He was a skilled craftsman. He was employed as a Carpenter in the construction industry, mostly while living in Ardmore, Tennessee. Prior to moving, he was employed as a farmer and at GE in Decatur, Indiana until its closure in 1982.
Mel enjoyed working in his garden and spending time with his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Avery of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Tony (Emma) Ohler of Decatur, Indiana; son, Bob (Sandi) Ohler of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, David Brewster; Justin (Erika Schaden) Ohler; and Joe Ohler; eight great-grandchildren, Kaylie Wellman; Kendall Ohler; Peyton Brewster; Gracie Brewster; Liam Ohler, Penelope Ohler, Travis Landis, and Princeton Oliver.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his three sisters, Mary (Al) Schnitz, Marlene (Marvin) Fast, and Marie Hegemier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating.
Family and friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. until services on Monday at the church.
