Melvin C. "Bud" Fuelling

Melvin C. “Bud” Fuelling, 87, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 at his residence. 

He was born on July 29, 1937, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Carl C. and Esther (Kukelhan) Fuelling. He was united in marriage Sharon (DeBolt) Gase on August 6, 1977, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling.

 Bud served his country in the United States Army where he was honorably discharged. 

Bud was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling where he served as a trustee and in many other capacities at the church. 

He was a lifelong farmer in rural Adams County and also worked at GE in Decatur.

Bud greatly enjoyed the outdoors, especially in his woods, cutting wood. He took great pride in caring for and raising cattle on his farm. Bud and Sharon also enjoyed Coon hunting throughout their marriage of 47 years. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sharon Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; Sharon’s children, Christine (Mike) Ferguson and Steven Gase both of Bluffton, Indiana; two sisters, Vivian Thatcher of Willshire, Ohio and Margene Fuelling of Decatur, Indiana; brother-in-law, Lawrence “Jerome” Fuhrman of New Haven, Indiana; Sharon’s 11 grandchildren and Sharon’s two great-grandchildren.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, in addition to Sharon’s daughter, Carrie L. West; two brothers, Rolland “Mickey” Fuelling and Eldon Fuelling; sister, Harriet Fuhrman; and a brother-in-law, Gene Thatcher.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling with Pastor Leonard Tanksley officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43.

Family and friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. 

Preferred memorials can be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling.
