Max J. Meyer, 79, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Wednesday evening, September 21, 2022, at his residence.
He was born March 25, 1943 in Decatur, Indiana to Ludwig and Rosella F. (Malloy) Meyer. On June 1, 1963, Max was united in marriage to Juanita F. ”Fay” Smith at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville.
He was a parishioner of St. Rose Catholic Church and a member of Decatur Moose Lodge #1311, Allen County Trustee Association, Sons of the American Legion Post #420, and the Monroeville EMS.
Max was co-owner and operator of Meyer Auto Sales in Monroeville. He was the co-founder of Monroeville EMS and a charter member for 45 years. He served as a Monroe Township Trustee for 33 years.
Max enjoyed bowling and golfing and was an avid train collector. But the highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a diehard Chicago Bears fan even when it wasn’t easy. His last request was to have the Bears frontline be his pallbearers so they could let him down one more time.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Meyer of Monroeville, Indiana; two daughters, Lori (Jeff) Wagner of Monroeville, Indiana and Kimberly S. Smyly of Liberty, Missouri; two brothers, Paul L. “Louie” (Pat) Meyer and Phillip A. (Ava) Meyer both of Monroeville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Ashleigh (Doug) Kayser, Abby (Andy) Pick, Alisha (Noah) Bontrager, Hailey Smyly, Jonathan Wagner, and Emmie Smyly; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Kyle Gerardot; and two brothers, Bruce T. Meyer and Lynn F. Meyer.
