Mary E. Schwartz

Mary E. Schwartz, 84, of Berne, Indiana passed away at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at her residence.

She was born on May 17, 1938, to the late John D. and Elma (Troyer) Wickey. She married Jacob X. Schwartz on October 8, 1959, and he preceded her in death on July 9, 2020.

Mary was a member of the Old Order Amish.

She is survived by seven daughters and five sons, Elma X. (Jacob E.J.) Schwartz, of Berne, Indiana; Edith X. (Dan A.) Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; David X. (Salome K.) Schwartz of Michigan; Rosina X. (Chris K.) Schwartz of Missouri; Jake X. (Sarah K.) Schwartz Jr. of Geneva, Indiana; Caroline X. Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; Lucy X. (Chris C.R.) Schwartz of Missouri; Emm X. (Samuel S.K.) Schwartz of Missouri; Esther X. (Cletus C.) Girod of Berne, Indiana; John X. (Rosie C.R.) Schwartz of Missouri; Reuben X. Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; and Roman X. (Margaret C.R.) Schwartz of Berne, Indiana; son-in-law, Stephen E. Girod of Monroe, Indiana; two sisters, Lizze E. (Elmer N.) Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; and Ada E. (Samuel M.) Girod of Berne, Indiana; one brother, Samuel E. (Mary I. Schwartz) Wickey of Berne, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Wickey of Grabill, Indiana; and Emma R. Wickey of Kentucky; two brothers-in-law, Carl N. Schwartz of Monroe, Indiana; and Joe E.J. Schwartz of Bryant, Indiana; 111 grandchildren; and 218 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary X. Girod; two sisters, Emma Schwartz, and Caroline Schwartz; two brothers, David Wickey, and Emanuel Wickey; mother and father-in-law, Jacob E. and Mary N. Schwartz; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023, at the Roman X. Schwartz residence, 5860 South 400 East Berne, Indiana, with Bishop Dan A. Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Creek Cemetery of rural Berne.

Visitation will be held at the Roman X. Schwartz residence from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2023, and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023.
