Mary “Jo” Gibson, 84, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away early Tuesday morning, February 11, 2025 at her son’s residence.
She was born on December 19, 1940 in Convoy, Van Wert County, Ohio to Earl and Cecil (Bell) Weaver. Jo was united in marriage to Raymond L. Gibson on October 19, 1957 in Auburn, Indiana and he preceded her in death on December 7, 2013.
She was a longtime fixture at The Galley Restaurant in Decatur where she was a waitress and bartender. Following her time at The Galley, she began working at the Meijer store on Maysville Road in Fort Wayne where she valued the time spent getting to know people as they shopped. But, in her younger years, she was the consummate farmer’s wife. She assisted Ray on the farm in not only the operation, but also operating the equipment.
As part of her life, she was a devoted wife to Raymond as together, they enjoyed harness racing. Over the years, harness racing became a family affair as the kids all assisted in the racing operation. After her children were grown, playing euchre and BINGO were her favorite past times and you could find her seeking out those games in the Monroeville area. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the charms in her life. The numerous visits by the grandchildren and great grandchildren were valued by her as she watched them mature and age in whatever activities they participated. IU Basketball brought her great happiness…and sadness in recent years.
She is survived by her son, Rodney (Terri) Gibson of Monroeville, Indiana; daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Scheumann of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Randy (Therese) Gibson of Monroeville, Indiana; and daughter, Rae (Randy) Fluttrow of Monroeville, Indiana; 15 grandchildren, Craig, Sarah, Dianna, Marissa, Derek, Jared, Melinda, Edward, Kenton, Ashley, Daniel, Matthew, Zachary, Joshua, and Austin; 35 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Weaver, Donald Weaver, and Doyle Weaver and three sisters, Wilma Thomas, Anna Clingenpeel, and Sharon “Kay” Heller.
A funeral service for Jo will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville with Pastor Berett Steffen officiating. Burial will follow at Monroeville Memorial Cemetery.
