Marvin A. Taylor

Marvin A. Taylor, 88, of Monroe, Indiana passed away early Monday morning, December 18, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest.

He was born on November 14, 1935 in Hoagland, Indiana to Roy and Susie (Perry) Taylor. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Kae Christener on September 2, 1956 at Monroe Methodist Church.

Marvin served in the United States Army for two years of active duty and ten years in the Army Reserve.  He also served 13 years in the Navy Reserve.

He was a member of Monroe Lighthouse, serving his church in many ways. He was also a member of the Adams County Zoning Board.

Marvin graduated from Adams Central High School in 1953. In his early life, he worked on a farm for the Yost family where the current Adams Woodcrest is located.  Marvin also worked for Christener Plumbing (Kae’s father). Marvin was a mechanic at Moser Motors in Berne.  He finished up his career driving semi for Monroe Grain and serving as pastor of the New Corydon United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed coin collecting and making and sharing his woodworking with others. He was greatly loved by both his and Kae’s nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Kae Taylor of Monroe, Indiana; three daughters, Joy Taylor of Monroe, Indiana, Susan (Fred) Roehs of Bluffton, Indiana, and Jana Taylor of Monroe, Indiana; sister, Virginia Hakes of Decatur, Indiana; brother, James (Sharon) Taylor of Decatur, Indiana; brother-in-law, Dale Gaskill of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren, Matthew Roehs and Kristen Lauria; and two great-grandchildren, Charles and Catherine Lauria.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Roehs; brother, Roy Taylor; three sisters, Ruby Hale, Rheba Eichhorn, and Sabina Gaskill.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 22, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor David Myers officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.

Family and friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Preferred memorials are to A.C.C.F. Benjamin Allen Roehs Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are by Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home of Decatur, Indiana.
