Marlene A. Gill

Marlene A. Gill, 88, of Mason, Ohio, formerly of Berne, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, surrounded by her family at her residence.

She was born on November 21, 1936, in Geneva, Indiana (Hartford Twp) to the late L. Lewis and Emma M. (Striker) Martin.

Marlene was united in marriage to Ray D. Gill on December 20, 1959 in Berne, Indiana, and they shared 64 wonderful years together before Ray’s passing on February 23, 2024.

She was a member of Cross United Church of Christ in Berne, Indiana and sang in the choir.

Marlene graduated from Hartford High School in 1954 and continued her education at The Ball State Teachers College graduating with a B.S. in Education. She taught elementary school with a focus in math and social studies classes. Her first teaching assignment was at the old Geneva High School. She retired following 25 years of teaching in both Indiana and Pennsylvania.

She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and learning about other cultures. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing big meals for holidays and family celebrations, and was especially known for her homemade pies which were always a family favorite. She enjoyed cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers men’s basketball team and was an avid Cubs fan. In her leisure time, she also enjoyed playing cards (especially Euchre), crossword puzzles and Sudoku.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle DeRae (Eric) Leeson of Mason, Ohio; four grandchildren, Evan (Allison) Leeson, Gwen (Alex) HoltLeeson, Austin Leeson, and Emily Leeson; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Leeson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marlene was preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. (Anna Mae) Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana with Rev. Timothy Price officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Morgenstern Workshop Geneva, Indiana c/o Christian Burkholder 11655 S 000 Rd. Geneva, Indiana 46740 or Hospice of Cincinnati.
