Marion C. Gledhill

Marion C. Gledhill, 91, of Decatur, Indiana passed away early Monday morning, April 21, 2025, at her residence.

Marion was born on January 19, 1934 in South Kingston, Rhode Island to S. Curtis and Elaine P. (Pitcher) Carpenter. She was united in marriage to Robert H. Gledhill on June 19, 1954 in Perryville, Rhode Island, and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2015.

Marion was a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur. She actively served her church as a Sunday school teacher and she held various Friendship Bible Studies in her home. Marion was formerly an active member of the Decatur Christian Women’s Club for 25 years, having also served as their chairman. She was chairman of the Board of Independent Living at Adams Woodcrest and was past president of the Oakwood Association. She volunteered at Adams Memorial Hospital in the gift shop for over 20 years and also worked for the voting polls for many years in Adams County.

Marion was a high school graduate from South Kingstown High in 1952 and worked as a Hostess at The Galley for 17 years.

She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cooking and always trying new recipes. Marion and Bob traveled to nine different countries with Dave and Bonnie Caston including England, Ireland, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Australia, Tahiti, New Zealand and Germany. Her family holds a special place in Marion’s heart.

She is survived by three sons, Todd K. (Norma) Gledhill of Middlebury, Indiana; Rodney C. (Deb) Gledhill and Keith R. (Jen) Gledhill both of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Janet V. Vanderlaan of Wakefield, Rhode Island; eight grandchildren: Brooke (Kyle) Sanders, Ryan (Jasmine) Gledhill, Mark Gledhill, Laura (Austin) Hermann, Andy Kline, Allison (Travis) Burnett, Mason Gledhill and Chandler Gledhill; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra L. Roberts and a brother-in-law, Arthur Vanderlaan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Life Celebrant Dave McIntire officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Fernwood Cemetery in Kingston, Rhode Island.

Family will receive friends from on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Adams Woodcrest Auditorium and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur prior to the funeral service on Friday.

Preferred memorials are to The Hope Clinic or First Baptist Church in Decatur.
