Marion L. Boerger

September 29, 1922 — December 1, 2024

Marion L. Boerger, 102, of Hoagland, Indiana passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Parkview Regional Medical Center

She was born on September 29, 1922, in Plainwell, Michigan to the late Joseph and Olive M. (Cook) Sweeney.

Marion was united in marriage to Louis F. Boerger on September 4, 1948, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1995.

Marion graduated from Central High School in 1941. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock in Monroeville, Indiana, where she was part of the Alter Guild. Marion believed in being active and supporting her local community. To practice what she preached, she was also a member of the American Legion Post #420 Auxiliary -Monroeville, the Women’s Auxiliary for the Hoagland Fire Department, and the Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA).

Marion loved arts, interior design, and flower gardens. She had a creative style which led her to remodel her home many times following current trends…and did the work herself. She also prided herself on having “the most beautiful handwriting in the world” as described by her children. Being outside and productive was an important activity for Marion. She would sit in a chair on the warmest day and continue to work on her flower garden and maintain her property.

She worked in production at General Electric in Fort Wayne for 10 years. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Louis Boerger. Following their marriage, she then devoted herself to the vocation of being a homemaker where she raised her family. When her family was grown and self-sufficient, she then began a career at J. C. Penney, retiring in 1986.

Marion is survived by her son, Mark A. (Brenda) Boerger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Pamela S. (Kevin) Birch of Hoagland, Indiana; grandson, Cody Birch of Hoagland, Indiana;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Boerger; brother, Joseph Sweeney, Jr.; and sister, Eva M. (Bill) Smith.
