Marilyn E. Frey , 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born on November 10, 1931, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Thomas Garner and the late Glee (Krugh) Garner.
Marilyn was united in marriage to James L. Frey on October 8, 1955, in Decatur, Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2007.
She was a member of Decatur Church of God in Decatur and was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years and worked with the youth. Along with her husband, they served as janitors of the church.
Marilyn was a secretary at Schafer Company for 23 years, retiring in 1997. Prior to working as a secretary she worked at Lincoln Life Insurance in the loan department for seven years and at Joe Mason Accounting as a secretary for three years.
Marilyn’s biggest joy in life was having her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and spoiling her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Gary L. (Sandra) Frey of Decatur, Indiana, Randy (Simona) Frey of Franklin, Ohio, and Matthew T. (Danielle) Frey of Decatur, Indiana; one step-brother, Rev. Dave Zimmerman of Arizona; step-sister, Wauneta (Bill) Reinhart of Decatur, Indiana; six grandchildren, Amber Rose Frey, Dustin (Sarah) Frey, Joel (Nikie) Frey, Kate Frey, Marc (Morgan) Frey, and Becca (Aaron Agler) Frey; and seven great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Frey; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Frey as an infant; a grandson, Caleb Frey; sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bill Myers; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Sunya Garner; one step-brother, Rev. Clarence Zimmerman.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Decatur Church of God in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Brent Doster and Celebrant Dave McIntire officiating. Burial will follow in the Decatur Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to Decatur Church of God – Youth Ministries or Riley Children’s Hospital.
