Marian Marie (Salway) Ramsey

November 21, 1925 — March 16, 2025

Marian Marie (Salway) Ramsey was born November 21, 1925 in Harlan, IN in a 3 room log cabin. She also lived in Woodburn until 1929 when her family moved to Monroeville during the Depression. The house was large and nice, but there was no heat in the bedrooms and no electricity in the house. They had gas lamps for lighting. She milked cows and rode horses as a child. Her dad did have one of the first Model T Fords.

Marian left home at age 16 and started working at several diners in Fort Wayne. She also worked cleaning houses for a local builder. When the war started, Marian went to work at Casad Depot in New Haven. She was a forklift driver loading ordnance to be shipped overseas for the war effort.

She met her husband Grover (Boots) Ramsey there, and they were married June 17,1944. Marian was about ready to do her solo flight in an airplane, when the war started and she never got her pilot’s license. After she married and started her family she dedicated her life to raising her children. When they were teenagers, she started working for McDonalds in New Haven. She was a mentor to the young people working with her. She even had two great nephews and her daughter working with her. She retired after 25 years, but went back to McDonalds on Washington Center Road and worked until she was 84 yrs old.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was know as the energizer bunny, the kids called her Mario because she drove like an Indy Race car driver. She will be missed by her family and all who came to know and love her. She had a love of life and a big heart always trying to care for others. She died peacefully on March 16 at Heritage Point of Fort Wayne.
