Mable I. Schaffer, 97, of Fort Wayne, Ind. passed away Friday evening, August 4, 2023 at Ashton Creek Health & Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
Mable was born August 1, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Fred Schaffer and the late Mary (Smith) Schaffer.
Mable was a member of Bible Baptist Church on Wayne Trace in Fort Wayne. She attended Decatur High School.
Mom loved her Bible, flower garden, watching her humming birds, playing dominoes with her family and friends, and took pride in her knowledge of current events.
Mable was a silk presser for Peerless Dry Cleaners and Swiss Cleaners for more than 35 years.
She is survived by numerous family members, including: Thomas (Pamela) Garwood of Fort Wayne; James (Donna) Garwood of Fort Wayne; Terry (Janet) Garwood of Leo, Ind.; Timothy (Tammy) Garwood of Olathe, Kan.; Barbara (Donald) Waidelich of Syracuse, Ind.; Karen Sue (Arch) Cornell of Springfield, Ohio; Leah (Bill) Borror of Syracuse, Ind.; and Connie (Robertson) Goll of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mable was preceded in death by Ivan Garwood, Lucille (Schaffer) Garwood, Tanya Smith, Judy Burkhart, Ivan Garwood, Jr., Daniel Garwood, William Garwood and Luke Borror.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Decatur with Pastor Ed Groover officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home – Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Bible Baptist Church.
