Leonard L. Thieme

Leonard L. Thieme, 79, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Adams Heritage Nursing Home in Monroeville.

He was born on February 15, 1941 in Union Twp, Adams County to the late Simon Thieme and the late Velma (Bohnke) Thieme.  He was united in marriage to Judith Bruns on September 7, 1968 and she survives.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur where he held many offices.  He was also a former School Board member at what is now SPI Lutheran School.  Leonard was additionally a member of the American Legion Post #43 Decatur.

Leonard was an honorably discharged member of the United States Army Reserve, having served six years.

Leonard retired in 1996 from General Electric in Decatur and Ft. Wayne following 37 years of service.  He was also a lifelong farmer, maintaining the family farm originally established in 1883 in Union Township, Adams County and has been recognized as a Hoosier Homestead Farm.  His son, Todd, now carries on that tradition.

Farming was a central part of Leonard’s life and his lifelong passion.  He was also a lifetime Los Angeles Dodgers fan and Indiana Hoosier basketball fan.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Thieme of Decatur, Indiana; son, Todd Thieme of New Haven, Indiana; two sisters, Marcella Lake of Newbury, South Carolina and Laverne Macke Cincinnati, Ohio; brother-in-law, Kenneth Doctor of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren: Ashley (Kyle) Stockwell and Charlotte Thieme; and four great-grandchildren, Konner Stockwell, Kyra Stockwell, Karter Stockwell, and Kooper Stockwell.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Thieme and a sister, Irene Doctor.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Decatur with Pastor David Koeneman officiating. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Decatur.  The service will be live-streamed on the Zwick & Jahn Facebook page for those who are not able to attend.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 two hours prior to the service at the church.

Preferred memorials can be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
