Leola “Fern” Bailey, 96, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Sunday afternoon, October 23, 2022, at Adams Woodcrest.
She was born January 2, 1926 in Decatur, Indiana to Roy and Mary (Stetler) Case. She married Lyle T. Bailey on September 24, 1950 in Garrett, Indiana and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1998.
Fern was a former member of the Willshire United Brethren in Christ Church where she had taught Sunday school. In recent years, she attended The Bridge Community Church in Decatur.
Fern was a homemaker and helped her husband with the family farm. She had previously worked at Lakeview Nursing Home in Decatur.
She was a fantastic cook and baker. Fern was an excellent seamstress as well. For many years, Fern enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with her extended family.
She is survived by daughter, Rita (companion, Brett Lutes) Bailey of Decatur, Indiana; son, Dennis (Kathy) Bailey of Tallahassee, Florida; son, Steve (Diana) Bailey of Monroe, Indiana; daughter, Marcia Kortenber of Decatur, Indiana; eight grandchildren, James Roe, Lisa Robbins, Kevin Bailey, Erin Bailey, Cassandra Nidlinger, Alexandra Roach, Madison Bailey, Heather Slusher; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Imalou Lenhart and Annabelle Laman and five brothers, Bud and Max Case and Larry, Lanny & Leon Case all in infancy.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Eric Lehman officiating. Burial will follow at Decatur Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to The Bridge Community Church.
