Kevin R. Goelz, 67, of New Haven, Indiana passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana
He was born on June 22, 1954, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Herbert Goelz and the late Dorothy (Knipstein) Goelz.
Kevin was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana and a former president of the church council and assisted with the youth group at church.
He graduated from Heritage High School in 1972, and got a B.A. Business Administration from Brown Macke College. Kevin was formerly employed as delivery specialist for auto parts at O’Reilly. Kevin was also formerly employed for 14 years at the Molding Company in Hoagland and also 10 years at Hoosier, AJAX in Fort Wayne and Urbine Machines in New Haven, Indiana. Kevin and his brother were owner/operators of the former grocery store in Hoagland.
He loved to watch basketball games, and Purdue athletics. He was a lifelong fan of Heritage Athletics and the Pride of Heritage marching Patriots. He coached for 14 years in the HBA (Heritage Basketball Association) and also managed the program for five years. He coached little league baseball in Hoagland for several years. Kevin enjoyed putting together model cars and was a big Baltimore Orioles and Indianapolis Colts fan. Kevin was also a founding member of the Hoagland volunteer EMS.
Survivors include his daughter, Brooke Linn Goelz of New Haven, Indiana; son, Geoffrey Alan Goelz of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two brothers, Wayne E. (Julie) Goelz of Poe, Indiana and Ray Dean (Dana) Goelz of Valparaiso, Indiana; and five nieces and nephews.
Kevin was preceded in death by brother, Mark Alan Goelz in 1961.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2021, at St. James Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana with Pastor Martha Hampton officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock. The family respectfully asks that you wear a facemask during the visitation and service.
Family and friends will be received from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at St. James Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to the family (make checks payable to Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home).
