Kenneth L. “Red” Witzenman, Sr., 78, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Tuesday evening, January 14, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on October 8, 1946, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late Frederick “Fritz” Witzenman, Jr. and Florence H. (Niblick) Witzenman. Red was united in marriage to Ellen Cragg in 1995.
Red honorably served his country in the United States Army in the 1st Calvary Division during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville, Indiana, and served as the Post Commander numerous times over the years. He also was a member of the distinguished 40/8 Honorary Society of American Veterans and served as the past Chef de Gare. Additionally, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War.
Red worked at General Electric and later retired from BAE Systems following 35 years of service and also served as a Union Steward.
He had a love for working on engines and tinkering on things.
Red is survived by his wife, Ellen Witzenman of Monroeville, Indiana; son, Ken (Melinda) Witzenman, Jr. of Houston, Texas; son, Matt (Emily) Witzenman of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Candi (Lee) Gillingham of Fort Wayne, Indiana; son, Kevin (Kristen) Witzenman of Cottonwood Heights, Utah; step-son, Jeff Lee of Auburn, Indiana; step-daughter, Jennifer Lee of Fort Wayne, Indiana; step-son, Jarod (Krista) Lee of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Darlene (David) Mackey of Franklin, Tennessee; brother, James (Diane) Witzenman of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sister, Deborah Faulkner of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville, Indiana.
Preferred memorials can be given to the American Legion Post #420 Color Guard or Wounded Warriors.
