Kenneth E. Koeneman, 86, of New Haven, Indiana passed away Saturday evening, April 16, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born August 1, 1935 in New Haven, Indiana to Edgar W. and Selma M. (Horman) Koeneman. On June 1, 1957, Ken married Mariann Selking at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble.
Ken was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gar Creek in New Haven where he had served as a past treasurer, elder, and chairman of the congregation. He had also served as chairman of the Central Lutheran School Board and was a former ambassador of Concordia Theological Seminary and a member of the President’s Council. He was presented the Miles Christi Award for his service at the Seminary. Ken served on the State Board of Indiana Nursery and Landscape Association; former member of the Woodburn Lion’s Club; honorary member of the Allen County Coon Hunter’s Club; and was a Lake James Lutheran Chapel Trustee. He also volunteered at Worship Anew.
Ken was a 1953 graduate of New Haven High School. He and Mariann were the owners and operators of Beverly Nursery Inc. in New Haven. Following his retirement, Ken was a part-time employee of Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes.
Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Ken and Mariann enjoyed traveling together, and above all loved spending time with their families. The guiding principle of his life was his love for the Lord and his desire to serve Him by being faithful unto death.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mariann Koeneman of New Haven, Indiana; five sons, Michael (Linda) Koeneman of New Haven, Indiana, Rev. David (Nancy) Koeneman of Decatur, Indiana, Thomas (Marilyn) Koeneman of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jon (Kelly) Koeneman of New Haven, Indiana, and James (Leeanne) Koeneman of Garrett, Indiana; sister, Verna (Eugene) Ehle of New Haven, Indiana; brother-in-law, Dennis Kummer of New Haven, Indiana; step-brother, Robert (Louise) Melcher of Decatur, Indiana; step-sister, Margie (Tom) Myer of New Haven, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Hannah Koeneman, Sarah (Willyam) Burford, Micah (Gina)Koeneman, Emily (Dalton) Mann, Martin Koeneman, Anna Koeneman, Benjamin (Amanda) Koeneman, Scott (Heidi) Koeneman, Lindsey Koeneman, and Jamie (Seth) Hathaway; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Harold Melcher; and sister, Alice Kummer.
A funeral service will be held on 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gar Creek with Pastor Michael Blodgett officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Gar Creek.
Friends and family will be received 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gar Creek in New Haven, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Worship Anew, Concordia Theological Seminary (Food Co-Op) in Fort Wayne or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Gar Creek.
Arrangements are by Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana.
